The Monad community has developed a rich and intricate lore over two years, featuring a variety of figures and memorable characters, from the early days of its loyalists, the “Nads,” to numerous community-created mascots and inside jokes [00:00:22] [00:00:25].

Core Team & Community Organizers

  • Danny Pipes Danny Pipes is the host of “The Pipeline” podcast [00:00:03]. He conceived the idea of a podcast and media arm to provide consistent, high-level updates and “Alpha” on Monad’s technology and vision [00:31:27] [00:31:53]. The podcast recently celebrated its one-year anniversary [00:32:13].
  • Keon Keon (often referred to as “Ke”) is recognized for his early contributions to Monad’s marketing [00:11:14]. He proposed the “10,000 TPS” benchmark as a catchy marketing number, leading to the engineering team reverse-engineering how to achieve this target [00:11:27] [00:11:46]. He and James made specific design choices to make Monad a Layer 1 blockchain, going “upstream” against the trend of Layer 2 solutions in late 2021/early 2022 [00:06:40] [00:07:03].
  • Bill Mundi Bill Mundi is a prominent figure in the Monad community. He was instrumental in establishing the “100% EVM compatibility” as a core design choice in January 2023 [00:07:26] [00:08:01]. Bill is also closely associated with the origin of Mandac [00:12:40] and the “Bill Monday = Plant” meme, where he used a camera feed of a plant as his stream during doxed events [00:46:04]. There has been speculation that his appearance is based on a dragon from the movie Mulan [00:24:25].
  • John W Rich Kid John W Rich Kid initially created the art for the first purple Pepe Ganad [00:04:01] and the original purple Pepe images before having any affiliation with Monad [00:18:16] [00:18:24]. He is also famous for his role in “Thursday Purge Day,” a ritual from April 2023 where he would virtually “execute” members from the “locked Telegram” chat to make room for new participants [00:19:50] [00:20:12] [00:20:30].
  • Tunes A podcast participant [00:01:56], Tunes claims to have mentored John W Rich Kid in trading fundamentals [00:19:12]. He is also the subject of the “Tunes you’re fired” lore due to actions that, in any other industry, would lead to his termination [00:44:00].
  • Port Port runs the Discord “Poker Knights” event, which originated from “Peso’s Poker” and has been running for over a year, maintaining its weekly relevance [00:25:36] [00:26:12]. There was also a long-standing joke or question in the community about whether “Port is not real,” which has since been “solved” (he is real) [00:38:43].
  • Youngest Peso Youngest Peso designed and set up all the initial blinds and settings for the “Poker Knights” event, which have largely remained unchanged since [00:25:46].
  • RayJ Known as Chog’s father [00:21:36] and Monal’s father [00:22:21], RayJ drew a Mandac in an AI program, which resulted in the creation of Chog [00:22:02]. RayJ was also obsessed with “shrimp posting” or “shrimp decks” in the early days of Monad, exploring high-density aquaponic shrimp farming for alternative income [00:42:51] [00:43:00].
  • Claire An “awesome Korean ad” active in the Monad Discord, Claire created a highly decorated Monad cake and famously filmed herself punching her fist through it in the “cake punch incident” [00:34:27] [00:34:50].

Mascots & Animal Characters

  • Ganad One of the most obvious Monad calling cards [00:03:27], the first Ganad was a simple “GM” tweet with a purple Pepe image, posted in December 2022 after the Twitter keys were handed over [00:03:47]. The art was initially created by John W Rich Kid [00:04:01].
  • Mandac The “beloved Mandac” is Monad’s hedgehog mascot [00:12:33]. Its origin involved Sapphire dropping a picture of a purple hedgehog in the Discord. Bill Mundi then found it and posted it, leading to the community rallying around it [00:12:52] [00:13:02]. The name “Mandac” originated from the image file name “mandak.PNG” [00:14:14], and “landak” means “hedgehog” in Indonesian [00:14:30]. Early usage involved photoshopping Mandac into historical photos to imply its omnipresence [00:13:26].
  • Purple Pepe The “original purple Pepe” served as a placeholder mascot in the early days before the community could create its own, providing a character for memes and setting a tone for future characters like Mandac [00:16:40] [00:17:27]. It was customized with a Monad hat and suit [00:18:03].
  • Chog Chog is an AI representation of a Mandac, created when RayJ drew a Mandac in an AI program [00:21:49] [00:22:02]. The Chog character is defined by its “pink under-eye bags or circles” [00:22:30]. Genetically, Chog split from the Mandac species about 1.8 million years ago [00:23:03].
    • Monal Monal is RayJ’s son and is considered both a Chog and a Mandac [00:22:17].
    • Chog Thoughts Chog also has a notable AI Twitter account called “Chog Thoughts,” considered the first real AI Twitter account [00:23:21].
  • Samanad Samanad is a salmon character [00:32:35]. He is generally described as “useless,” lacking defining skills or direction, and resonates with “extreme empaths” due to his perceived homelessness [00:32:42] [00:33:11].
  • Mooch The “Mooch” is a widely disliked creature in the community, often associated with the French national football team in FIFA [00:32:57] [00:33:55].
  • Madel Madel is a Monad animal that “never got any love” and is considered a failed character [00:40:44] [00:41:43]. It represents an awkward, in-between stage of evolution, like an early fish-like creature crawling onto land [00:41:03].
  • Monal Weasley Monal Weasley was a failed character based on Harry Potter, which never took off, and its name was later recycled [00:42:12] [00:42:35].
  • Mos Fatu (Nasferatu) Mos Fatu is a failed Monad animal character, described as spooky and inspired by an early 2000s SpongeBob episode featuring a Dracula-like character [00:44:52] [00:45:08]. The character “did not have a long life” [00:45:52].

Other Noteworthy Mentions

  • Samantha Samantha is a mysterious ex-girlfriend figure, often mentioned with sentiments of longing, “I miss her so much” [00:48:13] [00:48:28]. A shrine to Samantha was built in Monadcraft (a custom Minecraft server) in the early days, but it was unsuccessful in luring her back [00:48:45].
  • Fake One (Ke as Hon) Fake One was an LA rapper whose Twitter account was hacked. His profile picture and name were changed to resemble Keon (“K hon”), making it appear that all his past “street tweets” had come from Keon [00:37:35] [00:38:00].
  • Unice Unice is mentioned as someone who attempted to fix the office bathroom door with Kevin, leading to Kevin being locked inside [00:27:01].
  • Zane Zane is a community member who occasionally posts “GM” with the Monad hat [00:29:18].
  • Greg Greg is mentioned as having a tweet chain that inspired the “Memes of the Week” feature [00:16:04].
